I am using an old PC with new graphics and drive
gigabyte g31m-es2L m/board >> 945gcm-s2L
PowerColor HD 6450 graphics card ($39 at MSY) >> HD 5450
2 G RAM
E4600 Intel dual core CPU >> E6700
60GB Patriot Pyro SSD (about $100 at MSY)
download following software
iBoot.zip www.tonymacx86.com/Public/iBoot.zip
MultiBeast.zip www.tonymacx86.com/Public/MultiBeast.zip
Mac OS X 10.6.6 Update Combo http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1349
Step 1
extract iBoot.iso and burn to blank CD
(for help goto BurningIsoHowTo at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto )
goto BIOS and set SATA drive controller to AHCI mode
NB if m/board doesnt support AHCI then thy Enhanced or Auto
reboot using iBoot CD
wait for giant iBoot icon
remove CD
insert Mac OS X dvd
press F5 then enter to begin installation
Step 2
select language English
when you get a big X, do NOT continue
first go to utilities menu
select disk utility
select your disk
select erase
select "Mac Os Extended journaled" from list
enter name eg Hack OS X
press erase button
once format is completed close down disk utility
gets back to Install Mac OS X
select continue
complete license agreement
select disk
click install
Step 3
come back in 30 min
computer will hang because hdd is still unbootable
reset and boot with iBoot CD
will see 2 icons
navigate to OS X drive and press enter
will see apple welcome video
select Australia, skip personal details,
enter username and optional password
Step 4
plugin USB with preloaded Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo file and launch
follow prompts
when finished do not restart
Step 5
instead launch MultiBeast from the USB
select Easy Beast Install
continue
copy ATI5000Injector.kext to /Extra/Extensions
when finished remove iBoot CD and reboot
open MultiBeast again and select
SystemUtilities/RebuildCache
and drivers/kexts/audio > universal/Voodoo 0.2.72
update software
reboot
Results
very stable , similar feel to linux
cloning disk
open applications/utilities/disk utility
choose target drive
format : mac os extended journaled
rename to eg xHack
security options - zero out data
will erase any data and setup single partition ( recommended )
(in case of USB flash drive choose partition options - Master Boot Record)
download , install , and run carbon copy cloner ( ccc-3.4.7)
to clone source drive or partition to target drive
take coffee break
disk will have all data but is still unbootable
download and open multibeast 3
for core 2 duo based system - tick easybeast install option
continue
important - change install location to target (eg xHack)
continue / install
drive is now ready for booting
issues
DVD > dvd player crashes maybe related to graphics card frame buffer settings
WiFi > not working
system/hardware/PCI cards - not detected
try to get standard AirportExtreme card eg Broadcom bcm94321
other can be difficult to setup
fix wifi, hdmi audio, dvd
upgrade to lion (10.7)
